Thanks for Making Our First “Santa’s Sixes” Event A Success!

Thanks to everyone who came out on December 21st for our First Annual “Santa’s Sixes” Community Tournament. We had more than 100 players – from youth to adult – join us for an awesome day of lacrosse. The goal of this event was to bring our extended lacrosse family together around the holidays to celebrate our sport and support Henry Youth Lacrosse – our local youth lacrosse program. Mission accomplished! There were a lot of great games and a lot of smiles on everyone’s faces. We hope everyone had a great holiday season and is looking forward to kicking off the spring season – if you haven’t started already!

As a couple of follow up items from this year’s event:

  • First, congrats to our winners! In the Elementary School Division, everyone was a winner. Great job to all our young players who came out to take part in the fun. For our Middle School Division, the “Naughty Elves” dominated with their stacked team. We plan to coordinate things much better next year to ensure we have more competitive teams in the mix for this Division and/or do a better job at distributing the talent across teams. For the High School/Adult Division, we had a lot of close games, but the “Lowkey Chill Guys” emerged victorious in the Championship Game vs. “Resting Grinch Face.” Great job to all the players and teams who participated in this event this year! We hope you’ll join us again next December (we’re doing it again)!
  • Second, thanks to all our volunteers who helped keep things running smoothly all day. This was the first time we’ve done this event – and while there is plenty of room for improvement – our volunteers were awesome! If you helped at all with this event, thanks again for your time and support! We literally couldn’t have done it without you.
  • We did have a videographer and photographer attend the event. D1-Solutions, which specializes in sports videography, photography and graphic design filmed some footage and took some pics during the games. They shared some of their content from the day, which you can view here. We were also fortunate to have Dennis Geiser (@dennistookthispic.llc) taking photos at the event (Dennis also specializes in sports photography and takes great action shots). You can view/purchase photos from Dennis’ website here.
  • Finally, we did not receive everyone’s registration fee for the event. All proceeds go directly towards reducing costs for our youth lacrosse players participating in Henry Youth Lacrosse’s programs. We use the “Honor System” for events like this, so if you didn’t pay your fee in advance, please send $20 to HYL via Venmo (@henryyouthlax) or CashApp ($HenryYouthLax). Thanks in advance for taking care of this!

As we mentioned above, we plan to do this event again next December. If you have feedback or suggestions for things we can do to improve next year’s event, please email us at info@henryyouthlax.org. We will definitely make sure the bathrooms don’t get winterized the day before the event next year – and we’ll also plan to have at least one food truck in attendance so you don’t starve. We also plan to have a “central horn” to keep things on schedule. Thanks for these suggestions we received already! Please feel free to send us your thoughts when you have time.

Best of luck to everyone who is playing, coaching or involved in some other way with lacrosse this spring. We’re looking forward to seeing everyone again soon!
